Customized BMS Connector Solution for BYD’s Blade Battery Packs
Amphenol partnered with BYD to develop a dedicated BMS interconnection system for its flagship blade battery technology, which is widely adopted in models like the Han EV and Tang EV. The solution integrates two core product lines:
Wirelock 1.8mm Wire-to-Board Connectors: These compact connectors (1.8mm pitch) establish reliable signal links between battery modules and the BMS main controller. Compliant with USCAR-2 and LV214 S2 standards, they feature IP67 sealing to resist electrolyte corrosion and mechanical shock (ISO 16750-3), ensuring accurate monitoring of cell voltage (±0.5mV precision) and temperature across 100+ battery cells.
- High-Speed Data & RF Connectivity for Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS)
Tesla selected Amphenol’s Mini-FAKRA RF Connector Series for its Autopilot 3.0 system, which integrates 8 cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and a front-facing LiDAR (in premium models). The connectors address Tesla’s need for high-bandwidth, space-efficient signal transmission:
Support 0-15GHz frequency range, enabling uncompressed 4K video streaming from surround-view cameras and LiDAR point-cloud data (1.5 million points/second) to the Full Self-Driving (FSD) computer.
30% smaller and 25% lighter than traditional FAKRA connectors, fitting into Tesla’s compact front bumper and roof-mounted sensor array without compromising aerodynamics.
Amphenol’s RF connectors also reduce signal attenuation by 18% compared to Tesla’s prior solution, improving Autopilot’s object detection accuracy in low-light and adverse weather conditions.
